Kitchen 1
This 1950's kitchen was stripped down to the studs. Walls were removed to open it up. LVL's were installed to support the roof load. The washer and dryer were relocated to the basement.
The existing 8' cast iron radiator was relocated behind custom made radiator covers that matched the cabinets. The window was replaced with 6' of sliding doors to access the new 350 square foot deck that we also designed and built. (See "Other Work" / "Deck".)
Glass inserts in the cabinet doors leading to the deck alleviate the monotony of what would have been a long run of doors, and highlight the dish and glassware in the cabinets.
Wall speakers were installed in the soffits that are part of the first floor sound system.
Porcelain tile that mimics black slate was selected for its durability given its proximity to the outdoors.
Counter-weighted pendant lighting over the island provides an attractive design element while providing warmth to the kitchen and function for food preparation.

Kitchen 3
The foot print of the kitchen was retained while overall storage was doubled. Replacing the original 90° corners with 45° angles gives the kitchen a more spacious feel.
The original built-in pantry was replaced with side-by-side pantry cabinets. Each pantry cabinet has 5 full-extension shelves. Storage was increased 5-fold.
Pendant lighting over the island provides an attractive design element while providing warmth to the kitchen and function for food preparation.

These Maple cabinets are framed by a very elaborate Crown molding feature at the ceiling line and porcelain tile back splashes.
The mosaic insert theme highlighting the vent hood is carried through to the porcelain faux slate floor to border the island.
Decorative turned legs at the corners of the island cabinets and glass inserts to each side of the vent hood add a design detail that makes this kitchen one of a kind.

Kitchen 7
The existing kitchen foot print was expanded to the other side of the room to create additional storage and counter space. Usable storage space was increased by 90% as a result of cabinet selection, placement and the addition of 3 new cabinets, including a new 36" pantry cabinet.
Recently purchased appliances were reused and accommodations were made for the future purchase of a new 36" refrigerator to replace the existing 33" refrigerator.
The gigantic Kindred, single bowl, under mount sink will accommodate virtually any size pot or pan and is complemented by the Grohe Ladylux faucet with matching Grohe soap dispenser.
.This elegant kitchen is further enhanced by the 2 x 4 Picasso Travertine tumble stoned, subway tile back splash and the Red Malibu granite stone countertops with a matching window sill.

Kitchen 2
This kitchen is incorporated as part of the great room. The spacious peninsula delineates the kitchen area while spacious counters provide plenty of space for food preparation or serving.
The orientation of the peninsula allows for an intimate setting when entertaining guests.

Kitchen 4
3 months of design work began this kitchen renovation by building an 8' x 50' addition onto the house. The addition increased the size of the living room and brought the square footage of the kitchen to 600 square feet. The additional square footage allowed for a 4' x 8' pantry and a 6' x 8' laundry room to be incorporated as part of the kitchen.
2 islands were incorporated into the design; one with seating for daily use, the other island is 9' long with lots of storage underneath and an expanse of counter with an eye towards entertaining.
A hydronic radiant heat system is overlaid with a 3-tile porcelain tile pattern.
A custom enclosure around the range hood is covered in natural slate tile to match the backsplash.

The footprint of this kitchen was maintained, but the storage space was increased 35% by cabinet selection and placement.
The original wood floor was replaced with porcelain tile. Additional heating was provided by tapping into the home's existing hot water heating system and installing a toe-kick heater under the sink cabinet.
The gigantic Kindred, single bowl, under mount sink will accommodate virtually any size pot or pan.
Matching Zodiac window sills to the counter tops adds a nice design element.
Pendant lighting over the peninsula provides an attractive design feature while providing warmth and lighting to the kitchen.
The original 6" incandescent high hats were replaced with 3" low voltage, halogen high hats.

Kitchen 8
The very simple design and layout of this kitchen helps to accentuate the stunning glass mosaic tile that makes up the backsplashes and covers all the faces of the island.
The counter tops are made of 12" x 12" granite tiles. The granite tiles of the base cabinets are edged with maple. The granite tiles edges of the island tiles were polished prior to installation.
All of the exposed edges of the mosaic tile are finished with brushed, stainless steel, Schlüter edges for a sharp, clean, finished edge.
5/8" x 18" x 30" bluestone "tiles" set in a brick pattern cover the floor of the main entrance of the house leading to the kitchen.
